I think my journey into life began with music. The discovery of new bands has led me to begin a journey of self-awareness. It’s helped me to realize what people mean when they say that a song speaks to them. And it’s helped me to come into my own- caring not what others think but creating a path for me. It urges me to break out of this state of complacency and to learn about the world, myself and others.
In my head, this blog has tons of followers that are dying to know what my favorite summer songs are….well have no fear dear. Copy away
Guster- “Rise and Shine”.. I’m pretty sure this is about dying, purgatory or something i’m not deep enough to get. I just like the soothing harmonies.
Lupe Fiasco- “Show Goes On”... Who has 2 thumbs and learned the words to this whole song off of azlyrics.com? This girl.
Artic Monkeys- “Fake Tales of San Francisco”… Doesn’t this song make you want to jump around like crazy? Anybody? Just me? Great- it’s awkward now.
Billy Idol- “Rebel Yell”… I’ll redeem myself with a little Billy Idol. An oldie that begs to be belted out.
Foster the People- “Pumped up Kicks”… another catchy song with a distributing message. I think I’ll re-think going to this concert- at least not until I dye my hair black or something. As a blonde, I’d be the first to go!
MC Solaar- “Caroline” - I’d like to think that if we moved to Paris, I’d be cool enough to sit in a coffee shop where this guy was. Oh yeah- and I would know what he was saying.
The Faint- “The Geeks Were Right” - Just plain funny to me.
Bruno Mars- “Count on Me” - For my hubby.
Black Keys- “Everlasting Light” - no commentary needed. It’s the Black Keys for goodness sake.
ok.. i’m tired now. You get the jist…I like a random group of artists. Shocker, I know.
Thanks to a 4-day Memorial Day weekend and a dismal social life, I FINALLY re-opened my dejected copy of The Girl Who Played with Fire on Sunday. A few hours later I was engrossed. So tied up in the Swedish murder mystery that I even shunned the latest episode of Housewives of New Jersey (the horror!). I read until my little eyes could barely stand it- and drifted off to sleep with the book on my chest. (Poor hubby is slowly realizing what a nerd I really am.)
Enter this morning when all I could think of was the fate of Lisbeth Salander. I’d finally gotten past all the introductions of characters and background stories and was able to get to the real plot. As soon as the clock struck noon I was out the door. I’ve often longed for a spot of my own.. a reading nook that I could inhabit during lunch and eat my leftovers. So as I drove around Gulfport, I realized that the pier created the perfect place for this. Plenty of parking spots- so I wouldn’t look like a total creeper- and it was close enough to the office for me to push my time limit. As I re-surfaced my speed reading skills (told you.. nerd), I discovered my secret reading place isn’t so secret after all. Either I have 4 stalkers or other people like to spend their lunch break in their car reading as well.
So mission accomplished. I now have a place to retreat to when I need the outdoors, but just can’t find the outdoor french cafes I so desire.
Next step- actually sit outside and be social. Baby steps people.
